Some dare devil security researchers from iSec Partners  showed the world the power 0f hackers at the Black Hat security conference held in Las Vegas. they unlocked a Subaru Outback and actually started the engine "advertising for subaru safety".

How were they able to do this you asked? by using an Android phone and a technique they  nicknamed 'war texting', Mr Don Bailey and Matthew Solnik exploited two unnamed remote control products designed to allow cars to be locked and unlocked."unnamed product but name the car"

By setting up their own GSM network, they were able to intercept the password authentication messages between the server and the car within a couple of hours. Now emargin your family trip controled by someone playing games just because he happens to know more it than you, i must say i love tech but this is a bit dangerous.

And the pair said their technique can be used to disable or take control of other vehicles or many other systems, such as traffic control systems and security cameras now we talking, which receive firmware updates via text messages. More disturbing is, it could also be used to attack industrial systems, the power grid and water supply.

"I could care less if I could unlock a car door. It's cool. It's sexy," Bailey told CNN. "But the same system is used to control phone, power, traffic systems. I think that's the real threat."

The pair won't go into detail about the hack, or say which cars are vulnerable, until the manufacturers have had a chance to put things right. But General Motors, BMW and Mercedes all offer similar remote-control apps.
